My father remarried two years ago, and his wife, Ruth, recently moved into the family home where I grew up. I visit every Sunday with my husband and our two children, and cooking has always been my way of staying connected to the house and to my family. Last month, Ruth told me she had become vegan and asked me to stop cooking meat during our visits. A better solution might have been for everyone to compromise\u2014perhaps I could prepare meat elsewhere or bring food for my family without making Ruth uncomfortable.
