She Refused An Abortion At 17 And Her Son Became Famous At 31

Pattie Mallette is more than the mother of one of the most famous singers in today’s musical world, she is also an individual who has struggled in the past and has a story that will inspire you.

As the mother of Justin Bieber, Pattie Mallette is often seen on the red carpet but it is what happened in her earlier life that causes many people to truly think about the person she is. As a teenager, she had to survive unspeakable abuse.

Eventually, she would get pregnant and there was a lot of pressure for her to abort the baby. She decided to keep the child, however, despite what others thought and that child grew up to be Justin Bieber.

Mallette struggled through se xual abuse for many years. She spoke about it in her memoir, Nowhere But Up: The Story of Justin Bieber’s Mom, revealing that the abuse left her with self-blame and feelings of shame.

She said that a lot of survivors experience something like it. She went on to say: “You carry this shame and feel like there’s something inherently wrong with you. I definitely carried that burden.”

In her teenage years, things got so bad that she ended up trying to commit suicide. She said “It was the result of years of abuse, coupled with depression and substance abuse. Drugs and alcohol only made things worse. It was a breaking point.”
