Be careful when you see a stroller on the street at night…

This image might look like something from a horror movie, but it’s actually a real and alarming warning to all long-distance drivers, night travelers, and anyone driving through remote or quiet roads at odd hours.

A stroller abandoned by the roadside, especially at night, is not always what it seems. While our instincts may push us to stop and check—fearing that a child might be in danger—criminals have been known to use such tactics as bait to lure good-hearted people out of their vehicles. These traps are meant to create moments of vulnerability, giving thieves or attackers a chance to strike when you least expect it.

Here’s why this is an “expensive lesson”:

Some drivers have reported getting robbed, hijacked, or even attacked after stepping out to inspect objects like strollers, car seats, or supposed injured animals. These deceptive setups are often placed in areas with low visibility and poor lighting, far from help or surveillance. Not every object on the road is a sign of distress—sometimes it’s a ploy that exploits human empathy.

What should you do instead?

Stay inside your locked vehicle.Call emergency services if you suspect someone might genuinely need help.Note your location and keep driving until you’re in a safer, well-lit area.Report the sighting to local authorities so they can investigate.

Better to be cautious and safe than brave and in danger. The world has kind people—and unfortunately, those who prey on kindness. Drive smart, especially at night. Stay alert. Trust your gut.
