When I walked into the living room, my parents and my brother Leo were waiting. My mother sweetly explained that Leo had fallen into serious financial trouble and needed my help. My father insisted that, because we were family, I should use my savings and recent bonus to rescue him.
I listened calmly and then revealed that my money was no longer available. I had moved it into a locked investment portfolio that could not be touched for five years. The room instantly went silent.
