Mac’s world shattered when she received a short text from her mother: “We changed all the locks. You don’t live here anymore.” Confused and devastated, she rushed to her childhood home hoping there had been some mistake. Instead, she stood on the porch watching her key fail to turn in the lock. Everything she owned remained trapped inside, from her passport and laptop to irreplaceable family keepsakes.

She knocked repeatedly, but no one answered. Calls and messages to her parents went ignored. The silence hurt more than the locked door itself. She couldn’t understand why the people who had raised her would suddenly cut her out of their lives without explanation.

As she stood outside in disbelief, a neighbor approached carrying an envelope. Inside was a typed notice from her father warning that any attempt to enter the property would be treated as trespassing. Reading those words felt like a second betrayal.
