UPDATE: Famous country singer Alan Jackson has stepped in to cover the funeral expenses and provide compensation for the emotional and financial damages to the victims’ family in the tragic accident that claimed the lives of a family of five from Houston on Saturday afternoon in Leon County on I-45 near Farm-to-Market 977. The victims have been identified as Hermenegildo Melendez, 55; Veronica Cerda, 53; Veronica Denise Cerda, 26; Rebecca Cerda, 20; and Daniela Cerda, 18. A Dodge truck was traveling south when it lost control, veered off the road, struck a guardrail, then crossed the road into the center median, vaulted over the cable barrier, and collided head-on with a Ford truck carrying the family traveling northbound.
