Got VHS tapes collecting dust on a shelf somewhere? Maybe they’re already tucked away in an attic, forgotten for years. Hopefully you didn’t throw them out, because some of those old tapes might actually be worth real money today.
In recent years, collectors have started paying surprising amounts for certain VHS releases. While modern films often get re-edited or re-released in updated versions, many people still value the original theatrical cuts. For some collectors, that “original version” factor alone can make a tape highly desirable.
This has led to listings online—especially on sites like eBay—where rare tapes are being offered for extremely high prices. One example is a *Beauty and the Beast* VHS reportedly listed for as much as $9,999. The original release notably excluded the song “Human Again,” which was only added later in a 2002 special edition.
Disney tapes, in particular, are often of interest to collectors. Some early releases feature the iconic “black diamond” logo with Walt Disney’s signature on the spine, which has become a recognizable marker among VHS enthusiasts. As a result, even ordinary-looking tapes in good condition can sometimes be far more valuable than people expect.
