I put a la:xa:tive in my husband’s coffee

As I reached the door, he called after me and asked where I was going. I smiled without anger and gave him the same answer he had repeated to me countless times. “An important meeting.”

Hours later, I returned home to find him sitting quietly in the living room. The confidence he had worn that morning had been replaced with exhaustion and regret. He admitted he had canceled his plans and spent the day thinking about everything that had happened.

I listened without interrupting. Then I calmly told him that there would never be another lesson like this. If our marriage reached the point where respect disappeared again, I wouldn’t waste time trying to prove a point.
