I put a la:xa:tive in my husband’s coffee

When he called for his coffee, I handed him the mug with a gentle smile. “A little surprise,” I said casually. Without asking a single question, he took a sip and thanked me before finishing the drink.

Watching him trust me so easily hurt more than I expected. He had become suspicious of nearly everything else I did, yet he never hesitated to accept the coffee I made every morning. The contradiction wasn’t lost on me.

Before leaving, I asked where he was going dressed so nicely. He barely looked at me as he muttered something about an important business meeting and grabbed his keys. Within seconds, the front door closed behind him.

I remained inside, listening to the silence. I glanced at the clock and quietly counted the minutes, already knowing exactly how the morning was about to unfold-
