My Mother-in-Law Thought I Was Broke—Until She Learned

I never shouted or argued with her. Instead, I spoke calmly and reminded Margaret that every action has consequences. Throwing hot water at someone and forcing them out of their own home could not simply be ignored.

The white bandage wrapped around my arm spoke louder than any angry words ever could. Every time Margaret glanced at it, she was reminded of what had happened only a day earlier. The injury was impossible to dismiss.
