A Red Gatorade Nearly Ruined My Marriage..

Just a few weeks after we got married, my wife found a napkin in the pocket of my pants with what looked exactly like lipstick on it. She was convinced it wasn’t her lipstick and believed it was proof that I had been unfaithful. I had no idea how the napkin got there or where the mysterious stain had come from, but no explanation I gave seemed convincing.

For months, the napkin became the center of countless arguments. Despite insisting I had never cheated, I couldn’t explain the evidence sitting right in front of us. From her perspective, it looked like undeniable proof, while I was left trying to defend myself against something I genuinely didn’t understand.

Then one day, everything suddenly made sense. After eating a sandwich and washing it down with a bright red Gatorade, I wiped my mouth with a napkin and noticed the stain it left behind. The color was identical to the mark on the napkin that had caused so much trouble, proving it wasn’t lipstick at all—it was simply the sports drink.

Today, 26 years later, our marriage is stronger than ever, and the misunderstanding has become one of our favorite stories. Even so, whenever I remind my wife that the “lipstick evidence” was actually red Gatorade, I still get the feeling she’s not completely convinced after all these years.
