Millions Remember Him… But Few Realize Today Would Have Been… See more

On August 4, 1954, actor Donald Gibb was born in New York City, making today what would have been his 72nd birthday. His legacy is remembered with fond warmth following his passing in May 2026 at the age of 71.

Before pursuing an acting career, Gibb was an accomplished college athlete in both basketball and football. A car accident cut short his brief stint with the San Diego Chargers, prompting him to pivot to Hollywood and leverage his imposing 6-foot-4 frame.

Gibb gained iconic status as the beer-chugging fraternity bully Frederick “Ogre” Palowaski in the *Revenge of the Nerds* series. He also earned a dedicated following as Kumite fighter Ray Jackson in *Bloodsport* alongside Jean-Claude Van Damme, in addition to dozens of television appearances.

Off-screen, friends and family remembered Gibb as a kind and gentle soul whose real-life persona stood in stark contrast to his tough cinematic roles. On his birthday, fans continue to celebrate the humor, physical presence, and lasting joy he brought to cinema
