I stared at her, completely confused. “No idea about what?” She wiped the tears of laughter from her eyes and leaned closer. “Your boss doesn’t work late,” she said. “He leaves at five every night. He just doesn’t come home.” My stomach dropped as she opened her phone and showed me a photo of him entering a hotel across town—taken only two nights earlier.
Then she told me the part that made everything worse. She had known for months that he was lying, but she had never confronted him because she wanted proof. Apparently, I wasn’t the only person he had ordered to cover for him. He had even instructed his assistant to change his calendar and tell everyone he was attending “executive meetings” after work.
I apologized for helping him lie, but she shook her head. “Don’t apologize. You just gave me the final piece I needed.” She then revealed that she had already hired a private investigator. The hotel photos were only the beginning. There were recordings, bank statements, and messages showing exactly where he went every Friday night—and who he met there.
The following Monday, my boss called me into his office and calmly asked, “Did you tell my wife anything?” I looked him directly in the eyes and smiled. “No,” I said. “I didn’t have to. She already knew everything.” His face went pale. That was the last day I ever worked for him—and the first day his wife finally stopped believing his lies.
