The Woman Who Saved My Life Twice..

At 17, I desperately needed a kidney transplant, and a woman I had never met became my donor. Twelve days after the surgery, I visited her with roses to thank her, but she coldly told me, “I didn’t do it for you.” I didn’t understand her words until three years later, when she found me and finally explained the truth.

She told me that I reminded her of her son, who had died at 18 in a car accident. Years earlier, she had refused to donate his organs, and the guilt had haunted her ever since. Saving my life was her way of forgiving herself. Before walking away, she told me she didn’t have much time left, leaving me confused by what she meant.

Days later, the hospital called and explained that she had been diagnosed with a terminal illness and had no family to help her. She needed blood, and I was a match. I immediately rushed to the hospital because she had once given me a second chance at life. Although she had refused medical and emotional support, I stayed beside her, held her hand, and visited every day so she would not have to face her final days alone.

In her final hours, her face suddenly filled with peace, and she smiled for the first time. “I’m finally at peace,” she whispered. “Don’t feel sorry for me. I get to reunite with my son now.” She passed away a few hours later. She had saved my life once with her kidney, and I realized that the greatest way I could repay her was not by changing the past, but by making sure she didn’t have to face the end alone.
