He Broke My Heart, But His Son Changed Everything..

In college, I donated part of my liver to my best friend, saving his life. After surgery, he held my hand and promised, “Brothers forever, I swear it.” But later, he married the girl I had been seeing, and we never spoke again.

Fifteen years passed. Then his son showed up at my door with an envelope. His father had died, and before he passed, he told his son about me—saying I was the most selfless person he had ever known.

Inside was a short note apologizing. He admitted he had never found the courage to reach out. His son then handed me a college application and asked if I would be his reference.

“I want to study medicine,” he said, “because of what you did.” I was speechless. After all those years, I never expected to hear that. I simply smiled and said, “Yeah… of course.” We’ve stayed in touch ever since.
