The Flowers on My Desk..

For three months, someone left a single flower on my desk every Monday. There was never a card or a name, and nobody at work admitted to knowing anything about it. When my coworker called it “creepy,” HR got involved and checked the security cameras.

The footage revealed something I never expected. Every Monday at 5 AM, our office janitor quietly walked into the building and placed a single flower from his own garden on my desk before anyone else arrived.

He had overheard me mention to a coworker that no one had given me flowers since my husband died. He didn’t really know me, and I had never asked him for anything. He simply heard those words once in the hallway and remembered them.

He decided that it shouldn’t be true anymore. What everyone else thought was strange was actually a quiet act of kindness from someone who expected nothing in return. Sometimes the smallest gestures can carry the biggest amount of compassion.
