A 5-year-old wheelchair user named Ryder Kilam faced a daily struggle getting to his school bus, as his parents had to push him about 75 feet from home while protecting him from bad weather with a patio umbrella. After his father asked the community for help, students in Westerly High School’s Construction Technology program, led by teacher Dan McKena, decided to build Ryder a dedicated, accessible bus shelter.
