The $20 That Came Back..

For four weeks, my coworker Tina secretly took the $20 I saved every Friday for my son’s asthma medicine, so instead of confronting her, I left a note saying, “If you need it, take it.” A week later, when my son suffered a severe asthma attack, I begged Tina to cover my shift, but she said she couldn’t; I left work early anyway, expecting a write-up. Eight days later, my manager thanked me for staying late and covering the stockroom, but I knew I hadn’t—Tina had secretly switched our names in the system, stayed late, closed the store, and signed under my shift so I wouldn’t be punished.
