At 3 a.m., I woke to 12 missed calls and a text supposedly from my mother saying, “I got robbed! Come fast!” I rushed to her house, only to discover that she hadn’t sent the message. Terrified, I stayed with her for an hour before returning home, where I found my front door wide open and my house ransacked, with several belongings missing.
