At 11 p.m., I was in an Uber when the driver suddenly took a wrong turn, so I warned him he had missed the exit. He calmly told me not to move and pulled into an empty lot, making me nervous enough to start recording and prepare to call 911. Then he opened the trunk and pulled out a small flashlight and a bouquet of roadside flowers. Seeing my shocked expression, he explained that he had promised to bring the flowers home to his wife and daughter after his long shift and had hidden them earlier so they wouldn’t wilt in the car.
