The Coupons That Revealed My Dad’s Love..

When I was 7, my dad made food deliveries feel like a game. A man from a local food charity would bring us free meals, but Dad hid in the kitchen and gave me handwritten “food coupons” to hand over, never letting me know we were struggling. Twenty-eight years later, I found those coupons and discovered they were actually IOUs, each written in Dad’s handwriting: “I owe you one meal. I will pay this back.” After Dad passed away, I called the charity and learned that years later, when he had enough money, he had returned and paid back every single meal.
