Five-year-old Ryder Kilam, a wheelchair user from Connecticut, once had to be pushed about 75 feet to his school bus each morning and wait outside under a patio umbrella. After his father asked the community for help, students from Westerly High School’s Construction Technology program decided to build Ryder a proper accessible bus shelter. Three classes worked on the project, with senior Mason Heald leading the construction, while Home Depot donated about $300 in materials and a former student helped transport it to Ryder’s home.
