After years of cooking and cleaning for her husband’s family of 14, she finally drew the line. Although she still hosted Christmas and prepared everyone’s favorite dishes, she handed each guest an envelope revealing a new rule: Christmas would rotate among the adults each year. Whoever’s turn it was would host—or, if they couldn’t, choose between catering, a restaurant that could accommodate everyone, or splitting the costs among the family.
