At 89, Fidencio Sánchez was still pushing his paleta cart through Chicago’s La Villita to support his wife and two grandchildren after his daughter Catalina died in 2016. When a passerby photographed him struggling with the cart and launched a GoFundMe with a $3,000 goal, strangers responded far beyond expectations, raising $100,000 in one day and more than $356,000 in less than a week from about 17,000 people across 52 countries. The money helped make his final years more comfortable, and Don Fidencio died surrounded by his family on November 6, 2019, who remained grateful for the kindness that had changed his life….
