I’m Shiloh, 32, and my husband, 35, takes our two children, ages 7 and 5, out every weekend, supposedly to visit his parents, while I stay home because of my tense relationship with my MIL. Recently, she called me furious, claiming she hadn’t seen the kids in four months, leaving me completely confused. Then I discovered the truth: before we met, my husband had abandoned his pregnant ex, who raised their son alone. When she reached out months ago, he secretly began taking our children to meet their 10-year-old half-brother every weekend without telling me. I was devastated—not because he had another child, but because he had lied to me and kept such a major secret. After calming down, I asked to meet his ex, and surprisingly, we connected. She was kind, her son was adorable, and our children immediately bonded. Now I’m encouraging their relationship because I see her as a mother who raised a child alone, not as a rival. However, some friends say I’m too forgiving and letting my husband off the hook. Am I naive for welcoming his ex and her son into our lives, or am I doing the right thing by putting the children’s happiness first while still holding my husband accountable for his lies?
