My 7-year-old son, Jamie, struggled with constant tantrums, hitting, and screaming, so four months ago, we took him to Dr. Samuel, a child psychologist. When his behavior barely improved, the doctor suddenly emailed me saying he couldn’t continue treating Jamie because it was “best for everyone.” Confused, I called him again, and he revealed that during their last session, Jamie had a breakdown, screaming at someone named Claire and insisting she was angry with me. Dr. Samuel explained that this went beyond ordinary imaginary-friend behavior and recommended seeing a child psychiatrist immediately because he believed the situation was beyond his expertise.
