My boss denied my vacation request for my brother’s wedding, telling me to choose between family and paying rent. Instead of arguing, I stopped fixing other people’s mistakes and began documenting every extra task, email, and last-minute demand. Within two weeks, problems surfaced, so I took my evidence to HR and requested just one day off. After reviewing the emails, HR approved my leave in writing and required future family-event requests to go through them. I attended my brother’s wedding, and although my boss never apologized, he finally learned that my time wasn’t unlimited.
