The First Queen of Country Music, Dead at 85

Pongsri Woranuch, a celebrated icon in Thai country music—known as Luk Thung—has passed away at the age of 85.

She died early Sunday morning at her home,

as confirmed by her son. Woranuch had been battling a serious lung-related illness,

with reports varying between chronic lung disease and cancer.

In the months leading up to her passing, she had reportedly been hospitalized several times.
Her son, Jujuk Boonnachoti,

shared the emotional news on Facebook, saying, “And then Mom got on the last express train and left us.

No more cold nights alone, no more pain. Mom, if there’s anything I’ve done wrong in action or in words—please forgive me.”
