When my seven-year-old son came home from school excited about a secret lunch note signed “Love you, Mom,” I panicked because I hadn’t written it and immediately asked the school to check its security cameras. The footage revealed that a fifth-grade boy named Deshawn had secretly been placing encouraging notes in the lunchboxes of twelve different children, including my son, who often sat alone.
