But yesterday, I came back home earlier than usual.

“I didn’t tell you because I wanted it to be a surprise. They’ve been working on a family history project, and they’ve been bringing things over bit by bit.”

I felt my anger melt away when I looked at the faded photos of smiling faces, handwritten recipes, and heartfelt letters.
