“I only have a year left to live. Marry me, bear me a son, and your family will never have money problems again,” said the wealthy landowner.

The poor girl was only twenty, living in a crumbling wooden house with her sick mother while her father sat in prison over debts he could not repay. She worked from before sunrise until nightfall, yet there was barely enough money for bread, let alone medicine. Each day felt heavier than the last, and hope seemed to fade with her mother’s strength.

Then a wealthy forty-year-old landowner arrived with an offer that sounded like salvation. He promised to free her father, pay the debts, and ensure her family would never suffer again. In return, she had to marry him and bear him a son. He claimed he had only a year to live, speaking of his death as calmly as if discussing business.

Desperate to save her family, she agreed, convincing herself it was a sacrifice worth making. But on their wedding night, unable to sleep in the cold, unfamiliar house, she discovered documents in his office. A medical report showed he was perfectly healthy, and a contract revealed that if she bore him a child within a year, he would inherit a vast fortune; if not, the marriage would be annulled and she would be left with nothing.

Horrified, she realized she had been deceived and used as part of a calculated plan. Her compassion had been exploited, and once she served his purpose, she would be discarded without shame. By morning, the truth was clear: she had not married a dying man, but a liar who saw her as nothing more than a means to secure his inheritance.
