After my second miscarriage, my mother-in-law sent lilies to the hospital with a cruel note: “Some bloodlines are better left to end.” My husband didn’t even visit me, so as soon as I was discharged, I packed my belongings and fled to my parents’ home. But the most heartbreaking discovery was a tiny pink knitted baby hat. Her letter revealed that she had known my baby was a girl and had started knitting it as soon as she found out. She had imagined holding her granddaughter and giving her the love she wished she had given her own son. She ended with, “I’m sorry she will never wear it, but she existed, and I wanted you to know she was wanted.” I held that tiny hat and cried, realizing that beneath her cruel words was a painful truth she had finally found the courage to reveal. The truth broke my heart, but it also helped me see the freedom I desperately needed. ❤️
