While working the night shift at a grocery store, I caught a teenage boy trying to steal baby formula and bread because his baby sister hadn’t eaten all day. Moved by his situation, I let him take the food, and before leaving, he gave me a small blue star charm that his sister treasured, saying it would bring me luck. Although my manager gave me a formal warning and I later lost my job during layoffs, I kept the charm as a reminder that I had done the right thing. During an interview at a local food bank, the recruiter recognized the charm as one distributed in family care packages and, after hearing my story, hired me immediately. Weeks later, I reunited with the boy, his mother, and his baby sister at a food distribution event, where she was happily chewing on an identical blue star.
